A new Forbes report looking at the console market reveals just how well Nintendo are doing with their Wii console - the Big N the only platform holder which makes any profit from initial hardware sales.

According to Macquarie Securities analyst David Gibson, Nintendo make about 6 USD profit on every Wii system sold - before cleaning up via first-party game releases, which enjoy a 60% attach-rate.

By comparison, Sony loses money on every PlayStation 3 sold, while Microsoft just about breaks even on the Xbox 360.

The Wii is expected to sell the most games in the coming year according to the analysis, while Ninty also boast a 65% profit margin on sales, compared to the PS3/360's 50 to 60%.

More number crunching soon.
